I have now been driving for an age revealing 19 years. I couldn’t wait to turn 17 and had already eagerly applied for my provisional license. When that green piece of paper hit the door mat I knew I was on my way to manhood. Someday soon I would be cruising in a machine that would make my spots disappear, my shyness crumble into nothingness and women fall at my feet, just like I’d seen them flock to Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder (and he was called Cole Trickle – so I knew it must have been the fact he was a driver).
