The world is at war with itself and it has been for quite some time. Sadly the incidents in Paris on Friday, were, the tip of the iceberg.

The acts committed in Paris, were quite simply despicable. They weren’t valiant acts in the name of ‘Allah’ or any other God, for no God wound condone these barbaric crusades. This is not a war in the name of religion; it’s a war on civil liberty. Religion, as always, is the cover story that these heinous individuals are using as a scapegoat in which to hide their real motives. These are acts on civil liberties; whether they’re in France, Syria, Turkey, the UK, or any other Middle Eastern or Western country.

Civil liberty is the root of this war. A number of extremists feel they can justify their behaviour in the name of Allah, to bring about justice in accordance with the Q’uran and Sharia Law. These are not the majority of Muslims, but a small enclave of nut jobs frankly. There are approximately 1.6 billion Muslims in the world; if Islam bred violence and death, then we’d all be buggered. But it doesn’t. Just like every other religion in the course of history, small splinter groups like to interpret their religion and exercise their belief system as they see fit. I’m Catholic and therefore a Christian, does that make me an IRA member or even a KKK member? No, it doesn’t and neither is the everyday Muslim a terrorist or an extremist either.

I’ve read some absolute shite over the weekend from ‘friends’ on Facebook, the British media as well as internationally renound journalists and I’ve been gobsmacked with their lack of intelligence. Yes, the immediate knee jerk response when you’re hurting is an eye for an eye, but is this the answer? I agree border controls need to be tighter; we’re a small island with a growing and aged population and controls need to be measured (I’m not saying close the borders completely) but retaliating by bombing Syria, is that the overall answer? I’m not sure it is. These are refugees; people like you and me who’ve been displaced by this war, people who’re Muslim, Christian – people never the less. Do they deserve to be bombed? Do we not think these people have been through more than we’ll ever know? What about these people? Do we bomb a majority to wipe out the minority? I’m not sure I could sleep at night making this judgement…

I don’t know what the answer is quite honestly, I’m not a politician, just a human being that thinks shit has just got way out of control……
